Neon works in the dark

A neon wordmark gets noticed

What is neon and what do you need neon for? Anyone who uses neon lettering wants to stand out. Neon is used in illuminated advertising when individual letters or whole lines of lettering should catch the eye.

Today there are many flexible options by means of flex strips with LED lighting. The striking colours fascinate viewers and also score with their distinctive all-round lighting on a small radius. With these LED light tubes – also called Flex Neon Stripes or Neon Flex Tubes – we build your lettering just the way you imagine it:

For a punchy neon effect in your advertising message, nostalgic or modern.

The advantages at a glance:

  • even light pattern

  • appealingly eye-catching

  • Retro-Look

  • lights 180 degrees
  • flexible (Stripes)

  • fascinating with glaring colours

  • energy-saving thanks to LED technology

  • lange Lebensdauer
  • many colours

Neon then, neon now
The neon tube was invented by Georges Claude in 1909. In 1915 he received the US patent for it. After the First World War and the ban on illuminated advertising installations connected with it, neon boomed. Glowing advertising was widely visible in the 1920s and 1930s, both in America and in European metropolises such as Paris. Even after the world economic crisis, illuminated advertising stood for economic growth. For a long time, neon was indispensable in signage, and there were no alternatives either. The disadvantages, such as the expensive production or the installation, which because of the high voltage may only be carried out by specialists, had to be accepted for lack of alternatives. In the past, the glaring neon shades could only be achieved with fault-prone glass tubes. These tubes were and are laborious to manufacture, therefore expensive, and delicate during installation. That is why neon was no longer trendy for a long time. If the nostalgic neon effect fits your corporate identity today, there are now quite different options than just a few years ago.

Today: neon strips with LED technology
The Flex-Tubes used today can imitate neon colours such as yellow, green, blue or pink really well. Unlike the classic rigid neon tubes, they have the big advantage that they are bendable and can therefore also form unusual shapes. You can, for example, light parts of your lettering or your logo with a neon flex strip.

Neon flex tubes, also called neon flex stripes
Neon-Flex tubes are LED strips that stand out for high flexibility – and therefore high durability – as well as a homogeneous light pattern without visible pixels. Unlike the delicate neon tubes, they are impact-resistant and unbreakable. They can ideally be used outdoors, because they are manufactured with protection class IP67 or IP68. The Neon-Flex strips come in various sizes and lengths and can be used as needed.

There are two possible bending directions for the strips: either vertical, as they are used for curved contours, or horizontal, as they are used for bendable lettering and logos. Thanks to the LED technology used, the low energy consumption is of course a plus too. If needed, you can set the brightness with a dimmer.

How an LED strip is built.
An LED strip as used today consists of a flexible carrier material. Copper conductor tracks for carrying the current are worked into this carrier material. The individual LEDs are soldered onto this carrier material. Another advantage is that various colour temperatures and colours are possible with these so-called LED strips, or flex strips.

A perfect fit:
Lettering made with LED flex tubes, in a cool retro look, is for example a great fit in hospitality for restaurants that want an eye-catcher on the wall. Neon is generally a great choice for businesses that want logos and lettering with a nostalgic lighting effect, such as cafés, bars, clubs, or simply as an eye-catcher in the office. In darkened rooms, lettering with neon light has a particularly strong effect. You can, for example, visually highlight the counter area of a bar or the wall of a nightclub with a fitting line. Examples here are: “Let’s party”, “Cold drinks” or “Latte macchiato, anyone?”

Contour lettering and facade lighting can also be shown well with illuminated letters in neon. Whether you want to highlight a large pylon or a small display case, or whether you want to highlight individual letters – a wordmark in a neon design makes your message stand out. A white wall, for example, visually becomes a highlight with your neon logo. Information signs in the building also stand out more with neon illuminated lettering.

Your questions... our answers!

We now use almost nothing but – as with our other signage products too – up-to-date LED technology. The classic mouth-blown neon tubes are hardly asked for any more.

It depends on the size of the sign and the local conditions. We are happy to check that for you. In general, we would only recommend it from a size of about 100 x 100 cm.

No, the same rules apply here as for other signage products. It depends on the respective towns and municipalities and their bylaws. We’re happy to check that for you. Just get in touch!

Let’s talk about your project.
