Hardware: from a small single display to a huge LED wall
Now it gets a bit more extensive. While we always use cloud-based software, for the hardware there are numerous options depending on the area of use: from a small single display all the way to a huge LED wall, as well as the professional displays from our partner Philips with an integrated Android system, you can choose from many different components.
Small digital displays usually start at a size of 10 inches. This size is used in conference rooms, meeting rooms or at reception. Further sizes are 32 inches, 40 inches or 75 inches, up to 96 or even 102 inches, as found for example on a larger exhibition stand.
If you want it one size bigger, you will find the right solution in the LED wall – also called an LED wall or a video wall. These are individual displays lined up in a row that together show one large overall image with just a single base PC. With frameless LED walls you achieve large seamless areas with no visible screen edge. You will find them, for example, in large shopping centres.
Besides the immense size you can achieve this way, the intelligent and energy-efficient control with light sensors is another big plus of LED walls. With the sensors, the LED wall automatically adjusts to day and night conditions and can detect direct sunlight or, also, an overcast sky with clouds. In direct sunlight the wall therefore lights differently than when it is cloudy. No matter what the weather conditions are: you can still make out the picture without any problem. And when it is dark, a video wall needs only extremely little electricity. Through the light sensor the wall has intelligent control and adjusts its brightness to the ambient light – so it is very energy-efficient or electricity-saving.
The LED walls are often controlled via a NovaStar controller, which gets its information from the digital signage player. That lets you use your own content in a targeted way. By the way, our technicians are Nova-Star certified and know their way around it really well.
What counts: the viewing distance
In general, every LED wall is built from different grids, and the respective LED quality is measured in pixel pitch. As a rule of thumb, remember this: the smaller and finer the pixel pitch, the more expensive. The pixel pitch is the so-called distance from one LED to the next LED.
The viewing distance is always decisive: if you place an LED wall high up on your roof, you don't need such a good pixel pitch. Why? Because the viewing distance will be far away, and so the grid can be coarser. It looks different right in your point of sale, where the viewer stands directly in front of your display. While at trade fairs you need a finer pixel pitch of 2.5 or 3.9, at a station or on a roof – so, further away – a pixel pitch of 20 is enough.
Why a professional display and not a television
Wondering whether you could just use an ordinary television? Of course you can, but a professional display has many advantages compared with an ordinary television.
Digital signage displays are suitable for 24/7 continuous operation, so you can let digital signage run uninterrupted for 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. A television, by contrast, never runs uninterrupted for months; the technology is not designed for that. A television is also not suitable for still images, because these can burn into a television. In addition, the configuration options of the respective DS are much more extensive, because this hardware is exclusively professional equipment.
Another advantage is the luminous intensity, called candela in the trade. A television often has 300-400 candela. That’s fine for the living room, but not so well suited to a shop window in sunlight.
Be seen big: digital LED large-format ad spaces in and around Krefeld
Through advertising on a digital large-image projection, where something happens at regular intervals and the layout changes, road users at traffic junctions notice your advertising message from a long way off. If you're from Krefeld, you've surely noticed the large LED displays on Moerser Straße, at Dießemer Bruch and at REWE Hoffmanns in Fischeln at some point. Those are ours. And the digital menu board in the Tempelshof industrial estate in St. Tönis is ours too. You can rent these spaces. If you're interested in LED advertising in Krefeld and want to use this form in and around Krefeld for yourself, get in touch with us. We rent out the advertising spaces of the LED walls in Krefeld and St. Tönis.
By the way, besides the large LED advertising spaces you can also hire other LED walls from us. That could be of interest to you, for example, for a one-off festival or a trade fair – so when a purchase isn't an option for you.
