When brand advertising becomes an icon - the Sixt meerkat at Düsseldorf Airport.
For decades, Sixt has stood for advertising that wins people over and stays in the memory. Hardly any brand combines creativity, humour and brand message so consistently. Many campaigns have reached cult status and shape generations.
With the new meerkat at Düsseldorf Airport, Sixt continues this tradition impressively. The sculpture, over eight metres high, is far more than an advertising figure – it is a new landmark of the airport and ranks among the most spectacular brand installations in German travel retail.
For BlaueErdbeere it was a special honour to get to accompany this extraordinary project as the implementation partner for vinyl applications. From large-format vinyl applications through to the lovingly designed details, a brand staging came about that shows what is possible when creativity meets craft precision.
„Through recommendations from Düsseldorf Airport, Sixt turned to us. Today we are an official contract partner of Sixt SE – a sign of trust that we are very glad about”, says Dennis Winter, Head of Travel Retail at BlaueErdbeere GmbH.

Right at the start of the first construction phase at the end of May 2026, we supplied 148 linear metres of construction-fence vinyl for the arrivals and departures hall. What was used was an easily removable, fire-protection-certified POS film developed specifically for use in high-traffic areas.
Another highlight was the design of the meerkat's new home. Around 80 linear metres of shaft surface were finished with high-quality digitally printed vinyl film. The numerous detail jobs were especially exciting, though: from the oversized key fob to the sunglasses and on to the lenses, we got to apply vinyl film to every element.
A special solar-control film was used for the lenses. It is originally used on large glass facades to reduce heat build-up in the building. On this project it created an authentic transparent look and gave the sunglasses their deceptively real character.
The result is one of the most striking advertising installations in Germany and a real eye-catcher for millions of travellers at Düsseldorf Airport.
