What is digital signage?
Are you wondering what digital signage (DS) actually is? Digital signage – in German, digitale Beschilderung – is a broad term that in principle describes everything digital. In recent years this digital form of advertising has gained more and more importance, because the possibilities of digital signage are super varied.

To be able to use DS, you need software and the hardware, with displays, players or controllers, and PCs. You can have the displays as a single display or as a large video wall, which is also called an LED wall, video wall or LED wall. You can buy the equipment from us or rent it.

Advantages of digital advertising
Static data are now a thing of the past. Today communication takes place in a networked way, fast, and, with lots of current info, very flexibly too. Digital signage is completely online today and offers you many advantages: for example, you can feed in the very latest offers from your merchandise management system, let Insta and Facebook posts run, and integrate your RSS news feed. You want to entertain your customers and play current news or the weather report? No problem.

It’s even possible to link a DS monitor to a rain sensor and control it that way. The customer is then played exactly the advertising that fits the weather: when it rains outside, umbrellas are suddenly advertised on the monitor instead of T-shirts.

A few years ago it was quite different: back then there was only purely static data, played for example from a USB stick. Do you still remember the trade fairs where the same slide show ran on the screens in an endless loop? Those days are long gone. Today, digital signage is fast, simple and networked, thanks to cloud-based approaches. Now your digital display is controlled quite conveniently from any location over the internet and played on your device – such as a television or an LED wall.

Numerous possible uses
You can use digital signage brilliantly in retail as an LED band at the PoS if you want to draw attention to your offers in the shop or liven up your shop window. A small kiosk on the corner, for example, catches the eye much more effectively if lettering runs on an LED band outside on the building, so that there is constant movement there. In your restaurant you can quite simply draw attention to the dish of the day, or publish the weekly menu. And in the waiting room you can entertain your patients or clients with a digital advertising board, by publishing info about your team or drawing attention to the main focuses of your business.

Or you present your industrial company with a large LED wall at a trade fair. At trade fairs, this form of digital advertising is now impossible to do without – the digital presentation screens really do catch the eye. Thanks to the simple assembly and dismantling, the ease of maintenance and the flexible ways they can be used – whether free-standing, hanging or built into a wall – LED video walls become the optimal trade-fair system.

Electronic door signs or other signage can also be done digitally really well, by the way. Maybe you'd also like your Company signs digitised for once?

Cloud-based DS software
The basis of DS rests on the software as well as the hardware. With the software you can change your text, the images and the videos as often as you like.

We use a special cloud-based digital signage software with which you can run your advertising around the clock from your desk, the way you need it. The software can manage an extremely large number of different screens at the same time, controlled by time and date: you can choose, for example, whether your advertising messages should be static or animated. And you can place your advertising messages perfectly among your other messages – such as “Happy Easter”, “A peaceful Christmas” or “Happy New Year”.

If you have several branches, all sites can be fed with content at the same time: with just one press of a button you can spread your campaign in a targeted way straight from head office. You can also decide who may, if need be, make changes locally – so individual branches could, for example, be given permission to adjust the opening hours individually.

Hardware: from a small single display to a huge LED wall
Now it gets a bit more extensive. While we always use cloud-based software, for the hardware there are numerous options depending on the area of use: from a small single display all the way to a huge LED wall, as well as the professional displays from our partner Philips with an integrated Android system, you can choose from many different components.

Small digital displays usually start at a size of 10 inches. This size is used in conference rooms, meeting rooms or at reception. Further sizes are 32 inches, 40 inches or 75 inches, up to 96 or even 102 inches, as found for example on a larger exhibition stand.

If you want it one size bigger, you will find the right solution in the LED wall – also called an LED wall or a video wall. These are individual displays lined up in a row that together show one large overall image with just a single base PC. With frameless LED walls you achieve large seamless areas with no visible screen edge. You will find them, for example, in large shopping centres.

Besides the immense size you can achieve this way, the intelligent and energy-efficient control with light sensors is another big plus of LED walls. With the sensors, the LED wall automatically adjusts to day and night conditions and can detect direct sunlight or, also, an overcast sky with clouds. In direct sunlight the wall therefore lights differently than when it is cloudy. No matter what the weather conditions are: you can still make out the picture without any problem. And when it is dark, a video wall needs only extremely little electricity. Through the light sensor the wall has intelligent control and adjusts its brightness to the ambient light – so it is very energy-efficient or electricity-saving.

The LED walls are often controlled via a NovaStar controller, which gets its information from the digital signage player. That lets you use your own content in a targeted way. By the way, our technicians are Nova-Star certified and know their way around it really well.

What counts: the viewing distance
In general, every LED wall is built from different grids, and the respective LED quality is measured in pixel pitch. As a rule of thumb, remember this: the smaller and finer the pixel pitch, the more expensive. The pixel pitch is the so-called distance from one LED to the next LED.

The viewing distance is always decisive: if you place an LED wall high up on your roof, you don't need such a good pixel pitch. Why? Because the viewing distance will be far away, and so the grid can be coarser. It looks different right in your point of sale, where the viewer stands directly in front of your display. While at trade fairs you need a finer pixel pitch of 2.5 or 3.9, at a station or on a roof – so, further away – a pixel pitch of 20 is enough.

Why a professional display and not a television
Wondering whether you could just use an ordinary television? Of course you can, but a professional display has many advantages compared with an ordinary television.

Digital signage displays are suitable for 24/7 continuous operation, so you can let digital signage run uninterrupted for 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. A television, by contrast, never runs uninterrupted for months; the technology is not designed for that. A television is also not suitable for still images, because these can burn into a television. In addition, the configuration options of the respective DS are much more extensive, because this hardware is exclusively professional equipment.

Another advantage is the luminous intensity, called candela in the trade. A television often has 300-400 candela. That’s fine for the living room, but not so well suited to a shop window in sunlight.

Be seen big: digital LED large-format ad spaces in and around Krefeld
Through advertising on a digital large-image projection, where something happens at regular intervals and the layout changes, road users at traffic junctions notice your advertising message from a long way off. If you're from Krefeld, you've surely noticed the large LED displays on Moerser Straße, at Dießemer Bruch and at REWE Hoffmanns in Fischeln at some point. Those are ours. And the digital menu board in the Tempelshof industrial estate in St. Tönis is ours too. You can rent these spaces. If you're interested in LED advertising in Krefeld and want to use this form in and around Krefeld for yourself, get in touch with us. We rent out the advertising spaces of the LED walls in Krefeld and St. Tönis.

By the way, besides the large LED advertising spaces you can also hire other LED walls from us. That could be of interest to you, for example, for a one-off festival or a trade fair – so when a purchase isn't an option for you.

Supplier of DS solutions and Philips Professional Partner
We are proud that we can offer you digital signage as a complete package. Alongside our graphic designers, who create an unmissable design for you in our agency, our technicians and installers are also the right contacts for you when it comes to digital signage.

We are also a certified Philips system builder and, as a Philips Professional Partner, can offer you the Philips D-Line or X-Line as well. The big advantage is that with every other system an additional mini PC has to be connected, which plays the respective sequences. Not so with the Philips D-Line or X-Line. Here the PC is integrated directly – so you save yourself the extra PC. The operating system here is Android.

Your questions... our answers!

Yes, you need one, so you can change the content on your LED wall easily and quickly from anywhere. If no landline or Wi-Fi is possible, an internet connection could also be set up via UMTS.

From planning through to completion we offer an “all taken care of” package.

In a video stele, a textile tension frame is bundled with a digital signage display in a single advertising measure. So you can have the info about your company printed as a fixed graphic at the bottom and run an image film at the top.

You need a separately fused power connection directly at the installation site. The power required of course depends on the size of the LED wall.

We have many touch displays from various manufacturers in the range. Individual advice would make sense in every case.

If you use several displays, the HDMI signal is looped through or passed on from one hardware component to the next. It is set which display plays which picture.

That happens over Wi-Fi, straight from your office.

We use Screen Editor. What convinces us is that there is constant investment in the further development of this digital signage software.

A monitor is limited in size; with the LED wall there is theoretically no size limit. A normal monitor also only has a luminous intensity of 400 candela; LED walls have up to 6,000 candela.

It depends on the intended use. This mini PC might be enough for simple applications. However, it only has limited graphics power and is therefore not meant for complex applications. The advantage, of course, is that it usually runs on Android and you pay no licence fees.

Of course we hire out LED walls in all kinds of sizes for every conceivable application.

We're happy to take care of the permits required.

For a first quote, a photo of the installation site with the dimensions is actually enough. If you want to meet us in person, we are of course happy to come to you for a coffee 😊.

The display format. You'll find an LED band, for example, in a football stadium; it is 50 m long. An LED wall is 7:9 or 16:9.

Actually, every LED wall requires a permit. Whether and how easily you get a permit depends on various circumstances: for example on the distance from the road, or whether it is a busy junction where the LED wall is to hang, or whether it is a federal road. We are happy to take care of the preliminary building enquiry.

Let’s talk about your project.

Illuminated signs, vehicle lettering or complete branding – we advise you in person, with no obligation.
